We are seeking a highly skilled Surveillance & Counter-Surveillance Specialist to support a variety of protective operations for high-profile, corporate, investigative, and law-enforcement clients. The ideal candidate has strong experience in mobile and static surveillance, covert field operations, protective intelligence, and advance planning.
This role will conduct surveillance, countersurveillance, surveillance detection, route building, and protective advance work for clients traveling in or through the New York City region. Assignments may include threat assessments, protective intelligence gathering, identifying hostile surveillance indicators, and supporting executive protection or investigative teams in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Surveillance & Field Operations
- Conduct covert mobile, static, and foot surveillance in urban, suburban, and rural settings
- Document activities with professional report-writing, photographs, and video when appropriate
- Maintain situational awareness and adapt to evolving operational requirements
- Conduct surveillance to support investigations, threat assessments, and protective operations
Counter-Surveillance & Surveillance Detection
- Identify hostile surveillance indicators and anomalies
- Conduct surveillance detection routes (SDRs) to determine whether clients or teams are being followed
- Conduct 1-, 2-, or 3-person countersurveillance operations as assigned
- Utilize behavioral analysis, pattern recognition, and intelligence methodologies to disrupt or negate threats
Route Development
- Create and brief surveillance detection routes tailored to client needs
- Design safe movement routes for clients, including choke-point avoidance, low-visibility travel, and contingency options
- Conduct route recons to identify vulnerabilities, restricted areas, and environmental factors
Advance Work (ADV)
- Perform general advance work for incoming clients, including:
- Site visits and assessments
- Venue mapping
- Points of ingress/egress
- Emergency medical and LEA locations
- Communications checks
- Logistical planning and timing
- Prepare written advances and briefings for clients and internal teams
Documentation & Reporting
- Produce clear, detailed, and timely operational reports
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all internal security protocols
- Provide recommendations to improve client travel safety and threat mitigation
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in surveillance, countersurveillance, or related protective operations
- Strong ability to operate covertly in public and private environments
- Excellent observational skills and situational awareness
- Strong understanding of surveillance detection techniques and hostile surveillance indicators
- Ability to create detailed route plans and advance information packets
- Professional writing and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the NYC region
- Ability to work variable hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and short-notice assignments
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in law enforcement, protective security, intelligence, or military operations
- Training in surveillance/countersurveillance from government, military, or accredited private-sector programs
- Experience supporting executive protection details or investigative teams
- Familiarity with NYC geography, travel patterns, surveillance challenges, and threat vectors
- Experience conducting protective intelligence or threat assessments
- Foreign language skills (a plus but not required)
- Familiarity with technical surveillance tools (GPS tracking, covert cameras, OSINT platforms, etc.)
